Ms Mandy Ma, Chief Financial Officer of CUHKMC (left) stated that joining hands with the insurance industry to launch the "Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme for Insurance Intermediaries" marks a new milestone in cross-disciplinary healthcare collaboration.

Dr Jacqueline Choi Hiu-yeung, Specialist in Public Health Medicine, explained the development of Hong Kong's healthcare system, alongside the healthcare landscape and health protection in the Greater Bay Area, to insurance professionals.

Dr Ngo Chang-chung, Specialist in Urology, led a specialist training session, sharing the latest developments in prostate health and minimally invasive surgery.

(Hong Kong, 20 October 2026) With an ageing population, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and growing demand for healthcare services, CUHK Medical Centre (CUHKMC) has announced the launch of the “Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme for Licensed Insurance Intermediaries”, offering a series of specialist-led courses delivered by CUHKMC doctors. CUHKMC believes that closer collaboration between the healthcare and insurance sectors is becoming increasingly important in supporting the sustainable development of Hong Kong's healthcare system and enhancing health protection for the community.

Equipping Professionals to Address Healthcare Challenges

Insurance professionals serve as companions to citizens in planning their health protection. To further equip the industry, the programme aims to share the latest medical knowledge and clinical developments, facilitate professional exchange between the healthcare and insurance sectors, support continuing professional development, and deepen their true understanding of disease management, healthcare services and health protection.

The first phase of the programme commenced on 22 September 2026 and comprises six specialist topics, including Hong Kong's healthcare system and Greater Bay Area healthcare developments, breast cancer management, sports medicine, gynaecologic oncology, urology and robotic surgery, as well as lung cancer diagnosis and treatment. Each 1.5-hour session combines clinical knowledge and practical insights to help participants stay abreast of the latest developments in healthcare and disease management.

Delivered by specialists in Public Health Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology and Clinical Oncology, the programme provides participants with a broader understanding of disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and patient care from a clinical perspective. It also serves as a platform for direct and ongoing dialogue between healthcare and insurance professionals, fostering greater collaboration and mutual understanding across sectors. Participants who complete the 9-hour programme will receive a certificate of completion. The programme has been accredited by the Insurance Authority (IA) and the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA).

Commitment to Cross-Sector Collaboration

Ms Mandy Ma, Chief Financial Officer of CUHKMC, said: "On the journey of safeguarding citizens’ health, healthcare and insurance play an important and complementary role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the community. Through continuing professional development, we hope to establish more platforms for cross-sector exchange, facilitate mutual learning between healthcare and insurance professionals, strengthen collaboration, and contribute to the enhancement of health protection services.

This programme marks the first phase of CUHKMC's efforts to promote cross-sector engagement. We look forward to developing more professional education and knowledge-sharing initiatives with industry partners in support of Hong Kong's healthcare system and the communities we serve."
