CUHK Medical Centre Celebrates 5-Year Milestone with Community Carnival Championing Family Health

(13 September 2026, Hong Kong) — CUHK Medical Centre (CUHKMC) proudly marks its five-year milestone today with a large-scale Anniversary Carnival, drawing an impressive crowd of over 700 preregistered participants. Designed to promote intergenerational wellness and share the hospital’s ongoing achievements, the celebration featured a comprehensive lineup of activities. Highlights included “KidzMed”, an immersive experience for children, paired with educational health seminars, game booths and centre visits. CUHKMC commenced operations in phases in January 2021, followed by its official opening ceremony in September of the same year. As Hong Kong’s first non-profit, private teaching hospital wholly owned by a university, CUHKMC seamlessly integrates its academic mission, social responsibility and the flexibility of self-governance. Leveraging its unique strengths in clinical service, education, research, and management, the hospital is committed to providing patients with high-quality, transparent and affordable medical services. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 5th Anniversary Carnival, The Honourable TANG Ka-piu, Member of the Board of Directors of CUHKMC, stated: "Carrying a strong sense of social responsibility, CUHKMC bridges the service gap between the private and public healthcare systems in Hong Kong, offering a 'third path' for healthcare choices. Over the past five years, CUHKMC has introduced packaged pricing to ensure transparent charges, and actively engaged in public-private healthcare partnerships, by joining hands with community resources, to share the burden on the public healthcare system by taking on specialist consultations and surgical cases. ’CUHK Leads – Transforming Research Into Care’ is not just a slogan, but an action.”" Dr. CHOI Hiu-yang Jacqueline, Medical Director (Business Development) of CUHKMC, remarked: "In recent years, CUHKMC has actively reached out to the community by organising specialist knowledge talks of various scales to encourage personal and family health management. Moving forward, the hospital will focus on its '6+6' strategic development framework. By coupling the research and academic excellence of the CUHK Faculty of Medicine and the hospital's own clinical capacity, we will concentrate on developing six key medical specialties and six core cancer care services to serve the people of Hong Kong with heart." Family wellness served as the main theme of the carnival. Alongside family-oriented game booths, the event featured a highly popular immersive experience titled "KidzMed". Children donned miniature white coats and surgical scrubs to simulate the daily work of healthcare professionals, ranging from delivering babies and caring for newborns in a maternity ward setting, performing CPR in a simulated Emergency Department, and performing a simulated knee replacement surgery as an orthopaedic doctor. Dr. CHEUNG Hon-ming, Clinical Director of Paediatrics at CUHKMC, noted: "Children are fundamental to the well-being of every family. Through these experiential activities, we hope both parents and children will take away three health gifts: learning about health management and lifestyle; maintaining a happy and joyful mood; and acquiring information on disease prevention." To showcase nutritious yet delicious inpatient meals, the CUHKMC Patient Catering Team crafted 10 signature dishes for public tasting. Highlights included the hospital's signature CUHKMC Lemon Mousse, Slow-Cooked Australian Angus Beef Cheek with Mashed Potatoes, Double-boiled Peach Gum with Red Dates and Dried Longan, and Nutty Energy Wellness Soy Milk. The carnival also arranged public visits to key hospital facilities and clinical centres, including the Endoscopy Centre, Eye Centre, Urology Centre, Cardiology Centre, and Paediatric Clinic, allowing visitors to gain deeper insights into CUHKMC’s advanced medical technologies and patient care environment, as well as a better understanding of the application of surgical medical equipment. In addition, a series of educational health talks led by CUHKMC specialist doctors were held throughout the day, covering themes such as adolescent physical and mental health management, food and drug allergies, and common childhood diseases, and crisis management, aiming to enhance public awareness of family health management.
